Safeguarding Children Policy

Safeguarding Children

Kolmar Charitable Trust (KCT) seeks to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of all people participating in activities at Kolmar Charitable Trust and its members. To ensure that suitable and appropriate staff and volunteers (including parents) are working with children and young people, a robust recruitment and safety checking/screening process should be followed for all roles. Screening/safety checking is also required for staff and volunteers currently engaged in existing roles. A child/young person is recognised as someone under the age of 18 years.

The Sport New Zealand – Child Safeguarding Policies and Procedures goes into further detail including providing a safety checking flow chart, protocols, processes for keeping children, young people, staff and volunteers safe at Kolmar Charitable Trust. We recommend you become familiar with the content of this policy and procedures.

Safeguarding Children eLearning for Volunteers

We recommend everyone working within KCT and affiliated clubs (paid or volunteer roles) completes this free, online module Child safeguarding and protection course | Sport Integrity Commission Te Kahu Raunui
The online training replaces the Safeguarding Course that was previously available from Sport New Zealand. The Sport Integrity Commission has launched a new course. It is designed to give learners the tools to identify the signs of potential abuse and neglect and know what to do about it. This is an essential responsibility of every volunteer or paid member of staff coming in contact with tamariki and rangitahi in the sector.

The specific learning outcomes include:
  • Child safeguarding practices
  • How to identify and respond to abuse and harm
  • How to keep children and young people, and yourself, safe in different situations

All staff, volunteers and affiliated clubs are expected to understand and follow this policy and associated safeguarding procedures. Any concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a child or young person must be reported in line with Kolmar Charitable Trust processes.
